The seminar “FTA Index – Significance and Comprehensive Transformative Value in FTA Implementation”, organized by Industry and Trade Magazine, will be livestreamed on the Industry and Trade Magazine online platform and the “Proud of Vietnamese Goods” Fanpage at 9:30 a.m. on December 6, 2024.

In recent years, Viet Nam’s participation in a number of new-generation Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), such as the CPTPP, EVFTA and UKVFTA, has created significant opportunities for the country to expand and diversify its import-export markets, attract foreign investment, and generate positive impacts on socio-economic development nationwide as well as in individual localities.

However, practical experience has also shown that the implementation and utilization of FTAs remain uneven across localities. This highlights the need for measurement, assessment and stronger solutions from central and local authorities responsible for FTA implementation, as well as breakthroughs in thinking and action to further maximize the opportunities offered by FTAs.

Since 2022, based on directions from the Government, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has been developing the Project on the FTA Implementation Index (FTA Index). The FTA Index is currently being finalized with the aim of making it ready for publication as soon as possible. The immediate priority is to complete the report on the development of the Index and submit it to the Prime Minister for consideration.

What are the scientific and legal foundations of the FTA Index, and what policy implications can be expected once its results are published? What should stakeholders involved in FTA implementation do to effectively put the FTA Index into practice?

These issues will be discussed from diverse and in-depth perspectives at the seminar organized by Industry and Trade Magazine under the theme: “FTA Index – Significance and Comprehensive Transformative Value in FTA Implementation”.

At the seminar, representatives of state management agencies, Vietnamese enterprises and FDI enterprises will discuss and share views on Viet Nam’s implementation of FTAs in recent years, particularly from the perspective of policy domestication and the solutions introduced by the Government, ministries, sectors and local authorities to support the utilization of FTAs. The discussion will also cover key features of the FTA Index, its implementation approach, the progress of developing the Index, as well as the opportunities and challenges encountered during the process.

The seminar will thereby provide a clearer understanding of the significance and impact of implementing the FTA Index and its comprehensive transformative value for FTA implementation. It will also offer recommendations for ministries, local authorities, industry associations and enterprises on how to effectively operate and implement the Index, contributing to improved implementation and utilization of FTAs in the coming period.
